If you currently live in Illinois, have lived in Illinois or have worked for a company in Illinois, you should check with the Illinois Department of Revenue to see if you have property owed to you.
First, visit the Illinois State Treasurer page by clicking Unclaimed Property Search. There, you can conduct your search to see if you are owed unclaimed property by the state of Illinois.
Enter your last name or business name to get started. You can also add your first name, city or zip code to narrow down the search results. Next, click Search and review the results to determine if Illinois owes you funds.
Should you determine that funds are owed to you, you will now need to file a claim to receive your funds.
Depending on the volume of incoming claims, it may take up to 90 days for your claim to receive its first review. Once you have a claim ID, you can check the status of your claim by clicking here.
Illinois acts only as the guardian of your unclaimed property. The state never claims it as its own. In other words, generations from now one of your descendants could still claim your property if they have the correct paperwork.
