If you live in Iowa, or you have previously, there’s a chance that you may have unclaimed money waiting for you. Fortunately, it is a quick and easy process to see if you have unclaimed funds waiting for you!
The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt has returned over $336 million in unclaimed property to Iowans. If you haven’t checked for unclaimed property, it’s worth taking a few minutes to search.
The first step to finding if you have unclaimed funds is to click Search for Unclaimed Property. Once there, you can enter your name or business name to see if you have any unclaimed property. You can also search for unclaimed property on behalf of a deceased family member.
If you find unclaimed property that belongs to you, it is easy to file a claim online. You will need to fill out a form with identifying information including your social security number.
Once you have submitted your claim, it typically takes four to six weeks to process. This timeline may be shorter or longer depending on the type of claim.
It’s important to note that there is no deadline for claiming unclaimed funds in Iowa.
